Today is the last day this year that Teresa and I will be playing softball. Our tournament is this chilly evening. Everybody plays tonight. Teams play until they lose a game. Unfortunately I don’t think we will make it through many games, unless something amazing happens. Our record is not fantastic, but then we did just really join the team in order to get out of the house and to do something physical. Winning is always a good thing, but being out on the baseball field when it is this cold outside is crazy. Currently it is 35ºF here, in Texas! I never would have thought. Now if only we would get some snow.

So no more softball after this evening, at least until the Spring, or Summer. The league starts up again, and I think we are going to join up again. I know I need to. I have been a homebody, never leaving the house, eating too many Bon-Bon’s, watching too many Soaps, wearing the same clothes day after day until Teresa makes me change them. Okay, things aren’t that bad, but I go out of the house very little it feels like. 2010 will help to change that. My job at Biltmore ends the end of this year, and I need to look for work. I am thinking of getting some sort of part time gig where I need to deal with people. This way I can get out of the house, and have actual interactions with real people…. Whoah, I am way off topic. Softball is the topic of this post. I need to find some warm clothes for the game tonight. If, by chance, we do end up doing good, we could be playing for several hours in a row and being in left field can be a lonely and cold position some times.

As you might know, Teresa and I have joined a softball team here in Bryan. We have been on it for several weeks now. Everything happens on Thursday; practice, and games. So, we had two practices before the games started. Our first game was rained out, and our second game was actually on the same day as our third game (making it a double-header for all you non sports people out there). The first game in that double-header started fine, but mid way through it started pouring, and the game umpire called the game. Our third game was called due to the same weather that got the second half of our second game. Our fourth game is tonight, and if things go well, we will still be playing. The weather for today called for rain, but so far the skies are only a little cloudy. Hopefully things will stay that way and we will be able to complete our first full game. If it doesn’t, we will be playing make-up games all the way into next year.

I should mention that the photo above is our team t-shirt.

So far this Spring has been a rainy one here in Asheville. Rainy times make the rivers rise. Rising rivers make me want to kayak more. Having a brand new (only used once at this time) kayak makes me want to kayak more. Not having a car makes it difficult for me to use my new boat and kayak more. Sigh.

Thinking along those lines also makes me start thinking about kayaking in College Station. I have done a little research online, trying to find rivers to run in, and near, College Station. There seem to be a few, but one that runs right near town by the name Brazos. Not much of a white water river it seems. Mostly level 1 according to riverfacts.com. The closest seems to be a play-hole about 30 minutes outside of College Station (see the photo) called Hidalgo Falls. I am not getting my hopes up too much for the Brazos or Hidalgo Falls, but at least it will be something. And with the weather being what it is down there, I should be able to boat year round. I do like that.

So, I just took a break from writing that bit up top and remembered to search on americanwhitewater.org for texas river info. Found out a bunch more information regarding rivers. Listed below are some useful links:
